Hensman "Domus Solaris" Los Angeles, CA 1974/2008

This all-redwood gem was designed and built by Don Hensman for himself. It is in the hills above Los Angeles with views to downtown in one direction and the ocean in the other.

Like so many B&H designs this house makes very creative use of a challenging site, by placing the garage in hillside and the living space above.

The efficient design only required nine pieces of furniture to be complete.

This design also shows the elegant transition from pure open post and beam to the designs with more mass and shadow.

Don said, this house generated more new business than any other of their designs.

The house was resurrected in 2008 after some challenging previous owners, to give it the care and recognition it deserves.
